How do you use your SmartPhone? A 2 minute survey.

For a lot of people seeing the first mobile phone was something out of this world! Although it looked more like a large battery with a handset, the feeling of being able to be "mobile" was extremely appealing.

Over the years we have moved from using a mobile for just phoning and texting to using them for pretty much anything you can think of! For many people a mobile has become an integral part of their lives.

Piwik: Open Source Web analytics goodness

Did you know you can learn a lot about the people who visit your website?

When anybody uses a computing device (pc, laptop, tablet, smartphone or internet enabled fridge) to connect to your website, system information and software application settings from those computing devices are exposed. This information can be captured with software and used for a variety of means such as:

  • trending visitors

  • optimising the website content for search engines (SEO)

  • improving the user experience

  • increase sales if you are running an online shop

  • measure the effectiveness of a marketing campaign

  • and much more...

Enter the world of Web Analytics and you will find there are many different software applications and services available that can help achieve your website goals. One of the better known services is Google Analytics, this allows you to set up a connection between your website and the Google Analytics service. Once the connection is established website visitor information is sent to Google Analytics for processing. This information is then made available to you (the website owner) in easy to understand reports.

Piwik works in a similar way as described above, but has the added advantage of being a standalone web application that can be installed on your own webserver. There are modules available for Drupal and other content management platforms which connect your website with the Piwik web analytics server.Piwik Open source web analytics
